Taylor Legacy 855e, Ebony Fingerboard, Natural

~Guitar pictured is the actual guitar that you will receive~

Taylor’s 50th anniversary celebration culminates with the introduction of a special family of instruments called the Legacy Collection.

The collection launches with three rosewood/spruce 800 Series guitars that revisit the classic Dreadnought and Jumbo body styles that helped establish Taylor Guitars: the Dreadnought 810e, the 6-string Jumbo 815e and the 12-string Jumbo 855e. These 800 Series Legacy models trace back to some of Bob Taylor’s earliest guitar designs and reference the first official series in the Taylor line, starting in 1975.

These guitars are not pure reissues of the originals. But they do reflect the fundamental qualities of the original builds, while updating select features where appropriate.

Bob Taylor personally oversaw the development of these guitars, curating the design elements and drawing from his own personal history with them. The result is a collection with the look, feel and sound of true “legacy” guitars, but subtly reimagined with aesthetic refinements and performance enhancements introduced over the course of Bob’s tenure as Taylor’s guitar designer (before Andy Powers arrived).

Legacy 855e

This Indian rosewood/Sitka spruce guitar features a subtly updated version of the Jumbo body shape Bob originally inherited from Sam Radding, owner of the American Dream shop that he and co-founding partner Kurt Listug purchased together. The body is slightly newer than Bob’s earliest versions but still older. The peghead is an earlier “straight-ear” shape with a rosewood veneer.

The X-Bracing pattern is a version used on Taylor Dreadnoughts and Jumbos prior to the arrival of Andy Powers. With Bob’s breakthrough neck design (formerly known as the NT neck) which enables easy micro-adjustability and optimal playability/performance over time.

The onboard electronics use an LR Baggs Element VTC (volume, tone, compression), featuring an undersadle pickup and all-discrete, Class A preamp that includes a soundhole-mounted volume and tone control.

The aesthetic details recall those of the early 800 Series models, with a clean, classic aesthetic Bob loves: white plastic binding, three-ring green abalone rosette, non-engraved mother-of-pearl Large Diamond fretboard inlays, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots, gloss-finish body and neck, faux tortoiseshell pickguard, and Taylor nickel tuning machines. The Jumbo 815e and 855e contain Taylor's vintage mustache-style bridge.

All Legacy Collection models feature a specially designed “Legacy” label inside the guitar. The labels for the first 100 of each model will be hand-signed by co-founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.
