Taylor’s 50th anniversary celebration culminates with the introduction of a special family of instruments called the Legacy Collection.

The collection launches with three rosewood/spruce 800 Series guitars that revisit the classic Dreadnought and Jumbo body styles that helped establish Taylor Guitars, and pays tribute to Bob Taylor’s iconic Grand Auditorium with two cedar-top models that were popular standards for many years: the mahogany 514ce and rosewood 714ce.

These guitars are not pure reissues of the originals. But they do reflect the fundamental qualities of the original builds, while updating select features where appropriate.

Bob Taylor personally oversaw the development of these guitars, curating the design elements and drawing from his own personal history with them. The result is a collection with the look, feel and sound of true “legacy” guitars, but subtly reimagined with aesthetic refinements and performance enhancements introduced over the course of Bob’s tenure as Taylor’s guitar designer (before Andy Powers arrived).

Legacy 514ce

The mahogany/cedar Legacy 514ce honors the iconic Grand Auditorium body style celebrating its 30th anniversary this year as a classic cutaway GA model that isn’t currently available in the Taylor line.

The Western Red Cedar top offers a warmth and touch sensitivity that fingerstyle players and light to moderate strummers will love with X-Bracing voiced the way the original models were in the '90s and 2000s. The onboard electronics use the Taylor ES2 Expression System.

Appointments to this model include: Faux tortoiseshell binding (body and fretboard) with black and white top purfling, mother-of-pearl small diamond fretboard inlays, green abalone three-ring rosette, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots, gloss-finish body and satin-finish neck, faux tortoiseshell pickguard, and Taylor gold tuning machines.

All Legacy Collection models feature a specially designed “Legacy” label inside the guitar. The labels for the first 100 of each model will be hand-signed by co-founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug.
