This Taylor Empire Select 414ce combines the lush tones of a Western Red Cedar Top with the focus and definition of the Big Leaf Maple back and sides.
Cedar tops are softer than spruce tops, which allows for a warmer and more “broken-in” tone. Cedar tops offer a quick response that allows light/medium attack players to enjoy full tones with modest effort. Lively mids and an overall rounder tone offers a beautiful warm tone. While not as loud at peak volume as spruce, Cedar will allow players to fill a room and shape the tone of their sound with their playing attack.
Maple back and sides offer some of the most defined and “true” tones of any tonewood available. Players will immediately notice the benefit of Maple when examining their strings' individual voices–you won’t find muddy tones here. While Maple doesn’t have the bottom end boom of rosewood, it does have incredible balance and players will find that their playing style uniquely interacts with the characteristics of Maple.
We love this tonewood combination for players who love the clarity and definition of maple guitars but demand the warmth and response of cedar!
The Grand Auditorium Body shape is Taylor’s foremost design and allows for all styles of play and is super comfortable! Matched with a cutaway and Taylor ES2 Electronics package, this design is made for home, stage and studio.
