Gibson Southern Jumbo 40s Original Hifi DNA, Rosewood Fingerboard, Vintage Sunburst

~Guitar pictured is the actual guitar that you will receive~

The Gibson Southern Jumbo acoustic guitar traces its roots to 1942, when it was first introduced as one of Gibson’s famous, war-era “banner model” guitars. While less well-known than other Gibson flat-tops, such as the J-45™ and Hummingbird™, it has long been favored by players in the know for its unique tonal properties and superb playability. As Gibson’s premier round-shoulder flat-top model, it is still in high demand among the world’s finest players.

Now, Gibson is proud to introduce the Southern Jumbo 40s Original. Rooted in the 1942 original, it features forward-thinking upgrades that make it better than ever. It comes equipped with the new Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. HiFi DNA offers unprecedented realism when amplified, delivering your guitar’s unique tone and every nuance of your playing to your audience like never before.

The Southern Jumbo takes everything you love about a good J-45 and kicks things up a notch with solid rosewood back and sides, producing a tone with deeper lows, shimmering highs, and room-filling projection. The top is crafted using solid Sitka spruce for touch-sensitive response with a wide dynamic range and tone that gets even better as it ages, and both the top and back are framed with multi-ply binding for an elegant visual appearance.

The Southern Jumbo 40s Original features a mahogany neck with a comfortable SlimTaper profile that makes chording and fast flat-picked runs effortless. The neck features a rosewood fretboard with 20 standard frets and iconic split parallelogram inlays crafted from mother of pearl.

The peghead features smooth-turning, nickel-plated Grover® open-back tuners and has a bone nut. The peghead also proudly displays the vintage-style Gibson script logo, silkscreened in gold. The rosewood, belly-down, closed slot bridge features two mother-of-pearl dot inlays, a bone saddle, and TUSQ® bridge pins. A tortoise shell-colored teardrop pickguard adds another vintage-inspired touch.

Within, the Southern Jumbo 40s Original is fitted with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate, each paired with an individual preamp, delivering full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through without affecting the unamplified tone, with comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, yet remain all but invisible to your audience.

With its iconic design, rich, full-bodied rosewood and Sitka spruce-fueled tone, easy playability, high-tech modern electronics, and vintage styling, the Southern Jumbo 40s Original is a guitar you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again. It comes with a Gibson hardshell case to help keep it protected and safe when in storage or while you’re traveling to your next gig.

We are proud to include a full professional setup to factory spec before delivering your new Gibson. Our world-class techs will dial in your instrument to make sure the playability is maximized!
