This Taylor Empire Select 714ce combines the complex tones of Sinker Redwood with the lush and crisp tones of stunning Hawaiian Figured Koa.

Sinker Redwood soundboards are sliced from huge old-growth redwood logs reclaimed from the depths of Northern California rivers, where they’ve lain in many cases for more than a century. These tops provide some of the most dynamic and complex tones in guitar making today.  Players can heavily influence the response of the top through their individual playing style and attack. Super round tones and incredible sparkle are best enjoyed with a medium/light attack. Heavy strummers won’t get the volume of spruce tops but for all other styles, Redwood delivers gorgeous complex tones.  Think Cedar on steroids.

Hawaiian Figured Koa is sonically and visually stunning.  Defined by the incredible figuring that naturally occurs in the wood, Koa will stop you in your tracks.  Sonically, Koa offers a lush tone with a crisp response that is “dry/woody” in nature.  Plenty of mids are available with excellent balance.  Koa ages more dramatically than many woods and will open up over time with playing.
